100 years in pictures

This year the German Statistical Society celebrates the 100th anniversary of its existence. The Society has been founded in Dresden on June 17, 1911, originally as a section of the German Society for Sociology. more

Today the Society collects academics and practitioners of statistics from all kinds of application fields. It advances the scientific progress in the development of statistical methods as well as in their implementation. With this aim the Society organizes large scientific conferences and publishes two academic journals. more

The Society will celebrate its centennial with a ceremonial act that takes place ín the Leipzig Gewandhaus on September 21, 2011. The program will include an address by the Federal Minister of the Interior, Dr. Hans-Peter Friedrich, and speeches by the President of Eurostat, Walter Radermacher, and Professor Dr. Holger Dette of Bochum University. more

On the occasion of the centennial the festschrift „Statistics in Germany, 100 years of German Statistical Society“ (in German) has been published by the Springer Verlag. Being edited by Heinz Grohmann, Walter Krämer and Almut Steeger, the festschrift discusses the changeful history of the Society as well as provides an accessible introduction into the principal fields of statistical work. more
