Wolfgang Wetzel Award


To encourage outstanding young scientists and young researchers, the board of the German Statistical Society, advertised the Wolfgang Wetzel Award of the German Statistical Society for the year 2019. The award is named after the former chairman of the German Statistical Society. He mainly encouraged the strengthening of the mathematical and statistical models in society. The prize will be awarded during the Statistical Week. The board of the German Statistical Society decided on February 18, 2011, to award the Wolfgang Wetzel Award annually. The prize is awarded as 1,000 euros. As in 2011, the prize money is donated from Springer in 2014 | Springer-publisher GmbH. We would like to say thank you to the Springer- publisher for the financing of the Wolfgang Wetzel prize.

The award is presented to a young scientist, whom has graduated less than 5 years ago and has shown an outstanding contribution to a statistical methodology and its application. Acceptable contributions may consist of a previously published publication or a publication, which has been accepted to be published. It is also possible to award several publications, which have been written with various co-authors, in this case, co-authorships, the prize may be shared.

The publication (or publications) must have been published in the year of the award or accepted for publication during the two preceding calendar years. The recommendation is made by a member of the German Statistical Society. The recommended junior researcher has to be a member of the German Statistical Society. Self-proposals are not accepted.

The award of the prize takes place during the Statistical Week 2019 in Trier. The award committee this year is composed of Göran Kauermann, Ostap Okhrin, Thomas Kneib and Yarema Okhrin.
