The AStA - Allgemeines Statistisches Archiv, founded in 1890, covered the society’s wide spectrum of activities as a whole. As a result, its articles ranged from pure research papers to discussions on the impact of statistics on society..
Since then, all these fields have developed to such an extent that it is difficult, if not impossible, to cover them in a single periodical. The society has therefore decided to publish two journals, AStA - Advances in Statistical Analysis and AStA - Wirtschafts- und Sozialstatistisches Archiv, which together will carry forward the tradition established by the original journal. While the Wirtschafts- und Sozialstatistisches Archiv is devoted to issues concerning economic and social statistics, and statistics in society, the Advances in Statistical Analysis deals with statistical theory and methods.
